How to Talk to Your Kid About Drugs
(In 30 seconds or less)

This is an imaginary script of a conversation between a child of middle school age and an adult, perhaps an uncle (could be you):

"Hey, Joey, Uncle Dave can't figure out this stuff about drugs. Can you help me understand?"

"Sure, what do you want to know?"

"What are these drugs the kids are into?"

"Aw. Weed, marijuana, you know?"

"Yah, it was around when I was in school. What's so good about it?"

"Well, I hear it makes you feel good, you mellow out kinda, you really get into music and everyone's friendly."

"So, what's bad about it?"

"I've heard that you can't drive safely or trust what you see and feel. Oh, and it is illegal. They can suspend you from school if you have any."

"Hey, thanks, Joey. Thanks for helping Uncle Dave to understand."

The conversation has ended. The last statement Joey made is his. It is a summary of what is negative. You didn't have to lecture…he said it all!
